「アンバランス」は英語で何と言う？

何だかＡとＢの釣り合いが取れていないように見えるとき、
日本語で「アンバランス」という表現を使うことがあります。
ただし意味の上で日本語のアンバランスに近い英語は unbalance よりも imbalance のよう。
imbalance
a situation in which two or more things are not the same size or are not treated the same, in a way that is unfair or causes problems
「Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary」
imbalance というのは「（二つ以上のものの）大きさや扱い方が違う」という意味。
それでは英語の語彙に unbalance という単語は存在しないのでしょうか？
OALD には unbalance という名詞はのっておらず、unbalance という動詞かそこから派生した unbalanced という形容詞しかのっていません。今回は後者の unbalanced を見てみましょう。
unbalanced
- [not usually before noun] (of a person) slightly crazy; mentally ill
- [usually before noun] giving too much or too little importance to one part or aspect of something

unbalanced というのは「（精神的に）おかしくなった」あるいは「（ものの見方が）偏っている」という意味。
比較的ニュートラルな日本語のアンバランスと比べると、ちょっと強い表現になっています。
和製英語と言うほどではないのかもしれませんが、使うときには注意が必要かもしれません。
