Lou Reed「Why can’t I be good」

平日休みの今日は、先月亡くなったルー・リード（Lou Reed）のアルバムを一枚ずつ順番に聞いていました。
言うなれば一人追悼式といったところ。
我が家には彼のソロアルバムはほとんど揃っていますが、好きな曲を一つ挙げよと言われたときに挙げたい曲はどのアルバムにも入っていません。
それは1993年公開の映画『Faraway, So Close!』のサウンドトラックに収録されている「Why can’t I be good」という曲。
この映画の主人公は永遠の生命を放棄し、人間として生きることを選んだ天使。
映画の中で天使役のオットー・ザンダー（Otto Sander）が、ルー・リードのライブに迷い込むというシーンがあり、そこで実際にリード本人がこの曲を演奏しています。
モノクロームの画面の中、どこか悟ったような表情で「なぜ俺は善人になれないのか」と歌う姿が、映画に描かれる人間の実相と相まって強く印象に残ります。
