「宇宙」を意味する space と universe の違いとは?

スタンリー・キューブリック(Stanley Kubrick)監督の1968年の映画は『A Space Odyssey』。

ビートルズ(The Beatles)の1969年の楽曲は『Across the Universe』。

space と universe はともに「宇宙」の意味。

この二つの意味の違いとは何でしょう?

まずは辞書の語義から。

space はヒトの視点であり、universe は神の視点であると言うこともできるかもしれません。

なお「宇宙」を意味する英単語には、もう一つ cosmos があります。

こちらは秩序ある体系としての宇宙という意味。chaos(混沌)の対義語として捉えると、イメージがつかみやすいかもしれません。
